niversal rules of Zen followed by a mind unchanged from the very beginning

太极，无影无形，包罗万象，乃万物之本。

Despite its invisibility, Tai Chi, incorporating all the images of the world, lays a solid ground for the kaleidoscope of things in the world.

禅，以心性而起，至和谐而终。

Zen rises from an intuitional nature and ends in harmony.

 我，作为一个画家，勤于诗、书、篆、画，却一直秉承以水墨的形式去寻觅太极和禅的精神真谛。想古人所想，为先贤所不为。我认为，水墨之于太极，是形与意、流与源的关系。

As a painter, I have been dedicated to the study of poems, readings, carvings and paintings, and adhering to the pursuit of the ultimate rules of Tai Chi and Zen in the form of water painting. I meditate on the thoughts like ancient people and work on the undertakings unprecedented from the past. In my view, water painting is like Tai Chi, form represents meaning, and it flows to its sources.

在我看来，创作不只是一门艺术，更是一种禅宗的哲学。从“心性本净、顿悟超然”的禅宗思想里遨游、驰骋，寻找自己，发现自己。

Personally speaking, the creation of a painting does not simply encompass a certain category of art, but also a philosophic school of Zen. Involving in the thoughts of Zen with clean intuition and sudden inspiration, I search for and discover myself.

艺术是寂寞之道，有时甚至需要殉道的精神和气魄，快乐也不过是一种“守得云开见月明”的必然。创作的过程和经历有如惊涛骇浪拍击下的孤舟，需要的，是坚定的信念，以及一颗不改初衷的心。

The undertakings of arts are lonesome which sometimes require the spirit and determination of personal sacrifice. Therefore, the happiness of an artist is like the moon which illuminates the land when the clouds disperse. Like a lonely boat sailing against the torrential waves, the creation of arts definitely requires perseverance and a mind unchanged from the very beginning.

我坚信，艺术从来就不是按部就班的堆砌和设计。在创作中，艺术家往往在某一瞬间明白上帝的启示，并抓住了这种启示。所以，伟大的作品一定会有上帝的参与。

I strongly hold the faith that arts have never been a rigid process of design and formulation. The artists can understand the clue of God at any moment for the inspiration in their creations. Therefore, no great works can be unveiled without the participation of God.  

面对如今的世界，我一直在思考，中国的水墨应该以什么样的姿态呈现。我认为，它必须俱备民族的元素和国际的视角。

Now facing the world today, I have always been thinking how to display the intrinsic forms of Chinese water painting. In my opinion, it should be both composed by indigenous elements and international prospects.

我崇尚马的品质：空灵、正直、坚毅。我为艺术而生，我是画家，林跃平。
